In the late 1970s and the early 1980s, Burckhardt was already delivering major industrial construction projects in Germany. A strategic decision was made to strengthen its presence in the burgeoning German construction market. Consequently, in 1989, the subsidiary Burckhardt+Partner GmbH was established in Grenzach-Wyhlen, just across the German border.
A key factor was the involvement of major clients that were active in the region such as EMS-Chemie Holding AG, then still owned by entrepreneur and later Swiss Federal Councilor Christoph Blocher. Burckhardt+Partner GmbH quickly secured significant projects, including a production facility with a high-bay warehouse for Otto Suhner GmbH in Bad Säckingen and an office complex for Endress+Hauser in Weil. Under managing director Rolf Rode, the team soon grew to 30 employees.

To capitalize on the construction boom following German reunification, Burckhardt sought a foothold in the new capital. In the 1990s, Burckhardt+Partner GmbH partnered with the Swiss engineering firm Emch+Berger to establish a presence in Berlin. Operating as Burckhardt, Emch and Berger, the consortium delivered the refurbishment of the Bendlerblock, the seat of the Federal Ministry of Defence, which also houses the German Resistance Memorial Center, commemorating individuals and groups who opposed National Socialism. However, when the collaboration with Emch+Berger in Berlin did not yield the anticipated long-term success, Burckhardt sold its stake shortly thereafter.
In 1993, the Berlin-based architecture firm Reiner Becker Architekten BDA GmbH was founded, specializing in scientific construction and earning numerous accolades. In 2017, Burckhardt integrated the firm and its 20 employees as another German subsidiary. Reiner Becker stepped down as managing director in mid-2020, succeeded by Carsten Krafft, with Daria Grouhi joining in 2022 to co-lead the Berlin office.
In 2020, the two German subsidiaries merged to form Burckhardt Germany GmbH, maintaining offices in Grenzach and Berlin. The Berlin team focuses on scientific, research, and higher education buildings, often for prestigious institutions like the Max Planck Society. Burckhardt has established itself in the German architectural landscape and currently (as of late 2024) employs over 70 staff, with further growth anticipated.
